Magnetised band: the sound, written on the tapeRecord head, then playback heads 1, 2 and 3, 30 mm apartErase magnet: a magnet in the tension arm wipes the loop before it comes round againA tape echo repeats a sound by recording it on a tape loop and playing it back moments later. This early 1960s type runs at one speed, so each playback head gives its own delay (distance ÷ speed). Feedback records each repeat again, quieter. Watch runs ten times slower. The lesson in the lab: Delay through the eras, from slapback to the DAW.
